Description
The Communications Manager is responsible for leading the organization’s communication strategy, ensuring that messaging is consistent, clear, and compelling across all channels. This role aims to strengthen public perception, increase community engagement, and support institutional goals. The Communications Manager also oversees a team of communications and design professionals, fostering collaboration and innovation in content creation and campaigns.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all communications and public relations initiatives for exhibitions, special events, press conferences, fundraising campaigns, endowments, capital campaigns, and other institutional projects.
- Design, coordinate, and implement marketing and PR plans aligned with institutional objectives, including budgeting for campaigns, events, and income-producing areas.
- Establish media plans, confirm publication dates, and manage relationships with press and media outlets.
- Partner with the Development team to craft compelling narratives for fundraising initiatives.
- Supervise, mentor, and guide the Content Creator & Social Media Coordinator and the Graphic Designer & Photographer.
- Oversee the production and quality control of promotional materials, graphic design, and photography.
- Draft and coordinate press releases, media events, institutional messages, and public statements.
- Monitor public perception, track press coverage, and proactively address challenges or opportunities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven experience in strategic communication planning and team leadership.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills in both English and Spanish.
- Experience managing social media platforms, digital campaigns, and PR initiatives.
- Familiarity with visual content creation and design principles.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with attention to detail under pressure.
- Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy.
- Appreciation for the arts and enthusiasm for furthering the museum’s mission is a plus.
- Experience cultivating media relationships locally and internationally.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, preferably in a cultural or non-profit organization, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
